Tieing Beans into Silk

I have been tieing dozens of beans ( berlotti and canneloni) into silk with nylon knitting thread. Tomorrow I will dye it. It was so sunny the last couple of days that I was in a colour mood again- but alas today it was overcast with a bit of drizzle- grey day. This method of dyeing silk works best when its very sunny and it dries quickly. If its overcast again tomorrow I will perhaps use a hair dryer to get it dry. Any guesses for how many Beans I tied into the piece of silk- which was 50 cm by 120 cm long? It took quite some time!

I also hand printed some pomegranates- I want to make more pomegranate postcards to take to Europe with me. I also have a couple of dye orders ( small ones to complete) but I keep putting it off- sometimes it is hard doing those have to jobs.

I did sew some lettuce ( 3 different varieties) radicchio, tatsoi, cabbage and celery yesterday- hope it all comes up. The drizzle should do it good.

Wow, what a job! You have good time management with all the rest you have to do. It will look great though! Did you ever try doing this with synthetic fabrics, organza f.i.? Boil in water for 20-30 min. You could (hot water) dye it at the same time too. Wonderful structure. If you want to do this with natural protein fabrics (silk, wool)you could use permanent liquid (you know, for your hair). Never tried this myself. I even haven't time to think about art at the moment.
It wil be lovely seeing you next month!

There must be 500 beans there! I am wondering if it will be almost as much work untieing them. I can't wait to see the results.
