Hi there, Sorry I missed you at Chilford but wasn't able to make it this year.
I have been dyeing fabrics scrunched up with sewing and have found viscose and silk velvet a particularly thrilling medium to use.
I sew large tacking stitches with one length of thread up and down a piece of fabric 12" x 12" in a 'U' shaped pattern at invervals of 1". then I take another piece of thread and repeat at 90 degree angle. If your knots are really secure, when you pull both sets of thread you get the most wonderful scrunched effect that dyes like a dream. It's particularly good for fields!!
